About Us

"Hope is one of my favorite words.

I believe that hope is the expectation that what is wanted can be had. Hope believes that events will turn out for the best. That there is a secure future and good will prevail! If you have hope, you will inspire another to hope and then others will follow. What you hope for, but does not come to fruition, may just be because it is not your destiny. So then, you just have to have Faith.

Canine to Five was built on hope and faith many years ago! And from my hope and faith a mindful, helpful and impactful team has grown of woman and men who make tremendous contributions to the community we serve and the families we touch.

What we do as a team allows our clients to hope for whatever they want.

“There is no connection quite like that between a human and their canine companion. It overflows with respect, love, truth, compassion, and adventure—without judgment or condemnation. It’s magical, really. To be greeted each day with love, admiration, and pure gratitude every time you open a client’s door—well, there’s no better feeling in the world. You’re working in tandem with nature, and it’s both inspiring and invigorating.”

Sometimes life nudges us toward our true purpose in the most unexpected ways. I remember watching a movie where a character took a break from her job and stumbled into dog walking — and something about that moment lit a spark in me. At the time, I was at a crossroads in my own career. The 2007 financial crisis had shaken everything, yet I noticed the pet care world was quietly thriving. It made sense — our pets are family. Even when life feels uncertain, we make room for love.

So I started asking, Would you hire a dog walker? How many days a week? And the answer kept coming back — yes. That’s how Canine to Five was born: from curiosity, faith, and a deep love for dogs. What began with one walk a day grew, step by step, into a thriving community of over 150 furry friends. Canine to Five is more than a business — it’s a story of resilience, connection, and the beautiful places life takes us when we dare to follow what feels right.

Cara Kelly

Operations Manager & Co-Host of Dog is Love Podcast

Since June of 2010, Cara Kelly has been part of the Canine to Five family—a place that felt less like a job and more like a calling. After three adventurous years in Jackson Hole, she returned home to Baltimore seeking something that would nourish her love for the outdoors, for nature, and for the soulful connection she feels with animals. She found it here.

Today, Cara and her husband, Brendan, make their home on a peaceful farm in Sparks, Maryland, alongside their beloved Chocolate Lab, Juniper Peach. And when she’s not out walking dogs under the open sky, you can find her sharing her heart through song—an active voice in Baltimore’s vibrant music scene, reminding us all that purpose can sing through every part of life.

Emory Knott

For the past three years, Emory Knott has brought her gentle spirit and creative heart to the Canine to Five family. An artist at her core, Emory once walked through a season of stillness and struggle, navigating the quiet shadows of depression. But in the simple, joyful rhythm of walking dogs—one paw print, one breath, one moment at a time—she discovered a path toward healing.

Dog walking became more than a job; it became her therapy, her movement, her way back to herself. Today, Emory continues to create art for the pure joy of expression, with hopes that one day her work will find its way into the world—just as she’s found her way back into the light.

After three years of part-time work in a nursing home, she felt a quiet nudge for change—a pull toward something lighter, freer, and full of joy. She found that in dog walking. From the very first day, she fell in love—with the movement, the sunshine, and the simple happiness of wagging tails.

When she’s not out walking dogs, Ellie fills her days with creativity and comfort—cooking nourishing meals, getting lost in good stories, crocheting cozy creations, and diving into the imaginative worlds of her favorite video games.
